Harnedsville 7.0 miles Class Grad Size (Area/Volume) Scene/Poll Level III 80/100 Tiny (36/60) A/A Topographic Maps: Accident (Md), Confluence County Maps: Somerset Description: This very small trout stream is continuous Class II, with a number of Class III drops thrown in. A good indication of the nature of this run can be had by gawking from the State Route 523 bridge. [Reported 1988] Difficulties: As is often the norm with streams of this size there are many trees down and bends that obstruct one's view. After passing under a power line crossing there is a 3‑foot dam which is preceded by a 75‑foot pool. There is an easy carry on the right. A low-water bridge, 1 mile below Listonberg, is no problem in low water. Shuttle: To get to the put-in, start at Listonburg and head east on State Route 2004. Then immediately turn right onto State Route 3004. About 1.5 miles after a stream crossing, put in at the State Route 3004/80 marker where the stream nears the roadway. This will avoid a braided area just downstream of the next bridge about a tenth of a mile further. The take-out is along State Route 653, south of Harnedsville, were the creek joins the Casselman river. Gauges: Markleton. This gauge on nearby Casselman River will probably read above 5.0 feet. Look at the stream from the State Route 523 bridge. At 6.0 feet the creek becomes Class IV. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt. |
