Topographic Maps: Majorsville, Moundsville, Wheeling (all West Virginia)

County Maps: Marshall (West Virginia), Ohio County (West Virginia)

Description: Put in on Enlow Fork at Majorsville, West Virginia. Do not be distressed if the stream seems small, a mile later the Dunkard Fork joins in to form Wheeling Creek. Note there is also a Wheeling Creek in Ohio which enters the Ohio River directly across from this one. [Reported 1980]

Difficulties: There is a small dam at Elm Grove, about 1 to 2 feet high. This is followed by small rapids for the next mile.

Shuttle: Use the Elm Grove exit from Interstate 70, then follow the river to Majorsville. In Wheeling the take-out is on the Ohio River at the 16th Street parking garage.

Gauges: Elm Grove. We do not have enough information to report runnable levels on this section. A reading of 2.0 on the Elm Grove gauge corresponds to the mean flow of 333 cfs. Since this is a medium-sized river, we speculate that the river will be runnable at 2.0 and may be on the high side of runnable at that level. Note that there is also a Blaine gauge on Wheeling Creek, but this is a completely different Wheeling Creek just across the Ohio River in Ohio.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is medium-sized, it should normally be runnable approximately December through May.
