Topographic Maps:   Kane, Ludlow, Sheffield

County Maps:   McKean, Warren

Description:   Lovely run. Starts off by meandering through hemlock groves, with surprisingly few tree problems. Then forest becomes hardwood. Above and below 1st bridge, there is tornado damage. Much of the debris has been logged out, so there are amazingly few tree problems (relatively). Then comes a wonderful coast, first through park-like woods and meadows, and then hemlock forest. Marred only by gas structures and access roads. Rapids and pools turn to almost continuous whitewater. Gorge-like for awhile. [Reported 1993]

Difficulties:   Big boulders in woods, and some in stream with scattered strainers.

Shuttle:   To reach the put-in, in Kane, take Poplar Ave west to Park St. Turn right/north onto Park Ave. In one block, turn left/west onto Maple St. which becomes W. Kane Rd and then Reigel Road. About 1.4 miles from the turn, the road crosses West Run. To reach the take-out, return to US Route 6 in Kane. Turn left/north on US Route 6 go 14.5 miles to Horton Avenue on the outskirts of Sheffield. Turn left/southwest on Horton Avenue and follow until it to the intersection with  State Route 666. Turn left/south onto State Route 666 and go about 2 miles and continue straight onto State Route 948 when State Route 666 turns to the right. Go 1.1 miles to the take out where East Branch Tionesta Creek crosses.

Gauge: None.

Normal Wet Period:  No available statistics on seasons.  Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
