Duhring to Hallton 10.5 miles Class Grad Size (Area/Volume) Scene/Poll Level I 15/25 Small (88/147) A/A Topographic Maps: Russell City, Lynch, Hallton County Maps: Forest,
Elk Description: Duhring to Forest Service Road 130 bridge is remote with beaver dams and other wildlife in mixed woodlands. The pace is very relaxed through here. Some homes are visible from the water. Below Forest Service Road 130 the pace quickens with steady wave action. The five-mile run from Forest Service Road 130 to the mouth is an alternative with easy shuttle in the valley. A good alternative to high-water Clarion runs. [Reported 1997] Difficulties: Trees around islands, beaver dam. Shuttle: Put in where Forest Service Road 124 crosses the creek north of Duhring. To reach the take-out, turn left/south on Forest Service Road 131 just west of the put-in, then turn left/east on Forest Service Road 130 in Lamonaville, and follow 130 to towards Hallton. In the summer of 1989, the demise of a bridge over Big Run made it no longer possible to travel by Forest Service Road 130 to Hallton. This shortened this run by about 1 mile. This stream was run two days after the bridge was washed out, so the bridge may be repaired by now. If you choose to run both the East Branch and Spring Creek, shuttle by way of Forest Service Road 136 over Owl's Nest and through Sackett and Four Corners. Gauges: Wilcox. This gauge on nearby West Branch of Clarion River will probably read above 2.5 feet. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is small, it should normally be runnable approximately January through April. |
