State Route 66 to Clarion River 14.2 miles Class Grad Size

Clarion County Maps: Clarion Description: Variable scenery, mostly wooded. Downstream of Reidsburg the creek enters a remote hemlock gorge and the difficulty picks up to a Class II with some ledge and boulders formed Class III. [Reported 1997] Difficulties: There is a beaver dam a half-mile downstream of the State Route 2012 bridge, about 3.5 miles into the run. Then you come to a three-foot concrete dam, which can be portaged on the right. There is also the occasional fallen tree. Shuttle: The put-in is at the State Route 66 bridge, just south of Limestone. To reach the take‑out, go north on State Route 66, cross the creek. Immediately past the railroad, turn left/west, into the small town of Limestone. Take the third left/west on State Route 2012. Follow State Route 2012 west to its junction with State Route 68 at Reidsburg and turn left/southwest on State Route 68. Go 4.6 miles to State Route 2007 (Huckleberry Ridge Road) and turn right/north. Go 4.5 miles to a bridge at the mouth of Piney Creek. Gauge: None. If the shallow rapids upstream of the take‑out bridge are passable, then this section is okay. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is small, it should normally be runnable approximately January through April. |
