(Area/Volume) Scene/Pol Level II 16/27 Tiny(51/66) A/A Portersville Gauge Portersville Topographic Maps: Portersville County Maps: Lawrence Description: A fast flowing creek with occasional strainers. At the mid point there is a string of summer cottages. The remainder is woods. Although the map shows mining around this stream the woods appear quite natural from the water. [Reported 1998] Difficulties: Occasional strainers. If you go beyond US Route 19 there is a thirty‑foot falls. Shuttle: The put-in is on West Park Drive (State Route 4007) where it crosses the creek just on the western edge of Moraine State Park. To reach the take‑out, go north on State Route 4007. Just after crossing over I-79, turn left/west onto T 373. In about 0.5 miles at the “Y” bear right and continue on T373. About 1.5 miles follow T373 as it turns left towards Grant City. At US Route 19 turn left/south and go 0.5 miles to the take‑out bridge. Gauge: Portersville. The gauge is actually in Moraine State Park about 1000 feet below the dam about 3 miles form Portersville. We do not have enough information to report runnable levels. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. The flow is completely regulated by Lake Arthur. B. US Route 19 1.0 mile Difficulties: There is a thirty-foot falls in this section as it drops off the plateau into the Slippery Rock Gorge. The creek falls through a gorge onto boulders. There is no portage option. The right side is vertical and the left side is securely fenced and posted. |
