Topographic Maps: Marienville East, Marienville West, Sigel

County Maps: Forest, Elk

Description: The run from Forest Service Road 130 to the Marienville-Loleta road is tiny and in mixed woods and meadow. Swamp conditions with alder and tree jams are common. Beaver dams can be found. Below the Marienville-Loleta bridge the stream maintains a near-uniform character and gradient in an isolated canyon among mixed hardwoods and hemlock forests. Canoe camping is possible in a small stream whitewater setting. This one is a gem. [Reported 1997]

Difficulties: Lots of trees and brush above the Marienville-Loleta road. A few trees at islands below.

Shuttle: To get to the put-in, locate the intersection of State Route 66 and State Route 2005 in Marienville. North of this intersection you will find Forest Service Road 130, which heads due east from State Route 66. Follow it for 2 miles to the stream. To get to the take out, return to Marienville. Take State Route 2005 south to the Loleta Recreation Area. Turn right on the road, which runs along the East Branch, and continue to the take out at the junction with the Clarion.

Gauges: Ridgway. This gauge on nearby Clarion River will probably read between 8.5 and 9.5 feet. Check conditions along Marienville-Loleta road before running.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
