Topographic Maps: Cyclone, Smethport

County Maps: McKean

Description: This is a tiny little stream with numerous beaver dams. In fact there are so many, that they become a nuisance. The stream shares the valley with Route 6. The last 0.5 miles is flat, flowing through the Lions Club Park. There is a 10-foot dam at the east end of the park, which would require a portage if you wish to proceed on to Potato Creek. [Reported 1992]

Difficulties: Above the put-in on Kasson road, the general character is that of a meandering stream through a swamp.

Shuttle: To reach the put-in head south from Smethport on Route 6. In about six miles turn right/west onto Kasson Road. Within a short block are two bridges. Pick the best one as they come together in about a half a mile. To reach the take-out, return along US Route 6 to Smethport. Continue to the eastern edge of the business district and turn right/south at the Christmas Store. Go one block to the town park.

Gauge: None available.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
