Topographic Maps: Cochranton

County Maps: Crawford

Description: A clear, fast flowing creek in a wooded valley that opens up to meadowland and houses towards the end.

Difficulties: Be careful entering French Creek. It will be high if Little Sugar is runnable. And there are some swift eddies. [Reported 1999]

Shuttle: To get to the put‑in, go north from Cochranton on State Route 173 for about 2.5 miles to the bridge in Kasters Corners. To reach the take‑out, return south on State Route 173 to Cochranton. Continue through Cochranton on State Route 173 for about 0.3 miles to where State Route 173 crosses French Creek. The take‑out is on the left upstream side of the bridge. The trip may be extended by continuing down French Creek.

Gauge: Sugar Creek. Check the rapids from the US Route 322 Bridge. If this is passable then the section will be okay.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
