Waterford to French Creek 3.5 miles Class Grad Size
(Area/Volume) Scene/Pol Level A-I 3/3 64/Tiny B/B Topographic Maps: Waterford County Maps: Erie Description: This is one place in Pennsylvania, where you can start on a spring fed lake with free flows to a creek without a dam. Cabins are on the banks for the first half-mile, then it becomes a remote lowland swamp creek. There are occasional riffles from Moore Road to French Creek. [Reported 1999] Difficulties: An occasional fallen tree. Shuttle: The put‑in is at a road‑sized path to LeBoeuf Lake off US Route 19. It is north of a tavern and south of the intersection of US Route 19 and State Route 97. Do not park vehicles on the access path, or on business parking lots. Park along the main road. To reach the take‑out, go South on US Route 19 to US Route 6. Turn left/east on US Route 6 and got 0.6 miles to State Route 2001. Turn left/north on State Route 2001 and go 1.2 miles to the third point where French Creek is close to the road. This is the take‑out. It is about 0.2 miles downstream of the mouth of LeBoeuf Creek. Gauge: None. Check the riffles at the Moore Road Bridge. This is the shallowest part. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it would normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt. However since it is spring fed, it should be runnable over a longer period of time after a rain. |
