Topographic Maps:  Tionesta, President

County Maps:  Venango

Description:   Starts as beautiful hemlock run with clear water. There are many strainers, but volume swells and going gets easier, though never free of strainers. Eventually hemlocks yield to hardwood forest, but with some good stands of white pine. The run is almost continuous easy rapids over cobble and boulder bottom. Setting very wild. [Reported 1993]

Difficulties:   Many strainers.

Shuttle:  To reach the put-in from Oil City, take US Route 62 for about 10 miles until it returns to the Allegheny River. Drive alongside the Allegheny for about 1.4 miles to the bridge over Hemlock Creek near President. This is the take‑out; look for inoffensive parking. To reach the put‑in from here, turn right/east on McCalmont/Red Brush Road, on the north side of the put‑in bridge and go about 1.1 miles to Taylor Refuge Road. Turn right/east on Taylor Refuge Road. At 1.0 mile the road changes its name to President Road. 2.9 miles further, State Route 3001 comes in from the left and the road is now State Route 3001. Go another 1.9 miles to Hemlock Creek Road. Turn right/south onto Hemlock Creek Road and follow it for about 2.2 miles to where it crosses the North Branch of Hemlock and begins to follow Hemlock Creek.  Look for a place to put in, within the next 1.5 miles.

Gauge: None.

Normal Wet Period:  No available statistics on seasons.  Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
