Topographic Maps: Swanville, Edinboro North, Albion Fairview

County Maps: Erie

Description: In the first mile you pass cabins along the creek, then the creek starts to enter a steep wooded valley, which gives way to almost vertical exposed slate cliffs. The canyon seems remote for a long distance with many sidestream waterfalls. There is an impressive covered bridge several miles below the put‑in. About five miles before Lake Erie you see occasional civilization again. [Checked 2002]

Difficulties: Just upstream of the railroad trestle, there is a 2-foot falls involving a short portage. At higher levels it might be runnable.

Shuttle: The put-in is at the Newburger Road Bridge in Sterrettania. To reach the take‑out, return to Sterrettania Road (State Route 832) and turn left/west. Follow State Route 832 to US Route 20 in Girard. Turn left/west on US Route 20 and go several blocks to State Route 18. Turn right/north and follow State Route 18 through Lake City to State Route 5. Turn left/west and follow to the campground at the State Route 5 Bridge. Ask permission first. The mouth of the creek by Lake Erie is private.

Gauge: Painted gauge on center pier of the Sterrettania Road Bridge should read a minimum of 0.0 feet.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is small, it should normally be runnable approximately January through April.
