Bristoria to Pennsylvania State line 13.0 miles Class Grad Size
(Area/Volume) Scene/Pol Level I 9/13 Small (76/) B/A Majorsville Streamside Topographic Maps: New
Freeport, Wind Ridge, Majorsville WVa County Maps: Greene Description: This is a mostly pastoral valley. The creek flows through Ryerson Station State Park. The lake is one mile long. Portage is on the left side before the edge of the wooded bank. It is a quarter mile carry to a point downstream of a low water bridge. Some small islands in the lower part keep it interesting. You need a state park launching permit or Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission boat registration to travel though the lake. See the section on State Permits and Fees on page 15. [Reported 1996] Difficulties: Watch for fallen trees around the islands. Shuttle: The put-in is just downstream from Bristoria on State Route 3005. To reach the take‑out follow the stream downstream on State Route 3005, then State Route 3022, left/west on State Route 21 for a about 0.5 miles, then right/north on State Route 3001 (Wheeling Creek Road). At the “T” in Durbin, turn left/west across the creek. Take the right fork in the road. Immediately after crossing the creek again turn left and continue along the creek. The road follows the creek from here to the junction with Wheeling Creek, where it fords the creeks and goes upstream along Wheeling creek to Majorsville. You will probably want to stop long before the ford, as the road gets worse as you go. An alternate put‑in would be on the South Fork, which joins Dunkard Fork at Ryerson Station. Gauge: None. Check the riffles from Bristoria Road. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is small, it should normally be runnable approximately January through April |
