Township Route T410 to Clarion River 10.4 miles Class Grad Size
(Area/Volume) Scene/Pol Level II-III 27/33 Small A/A Topographic Maps: Fryburg,
Clarion County Maps: Clarion Description: This is a pretty stream running down a remote, narrow, steep valley. It starts out as a Class I, but just before it reaches the Interstate 80 bridge, it picks up to a Class II with an occasional Class III to the finish. The Interstate 80 bridge is the only bridge over the creek. All others have been washed out and it does not look like they will be replaced. [Reported 1997] Difficulties: Some steep curve drops. Shuttle: Put in on Little Deer Creek, at its confluence with Deer Creek, at the Township Road T410 bridge. To reach the put‑in, start at Shippenville. From the intersection with State Route 208 and US Route 322, go 0.5 miles west on US Route 322, to Township Road 410. Turn right/north onto Township Road T410 and follow to the bridge. To reach the take‑out, return to US Route 322, turn left/east on State Route 322 and then right/south on State Route 66. In about 2.7 miles at Manor Methodist Church, turn left/west onto State Route 4001. Follow State Route 4001 to State Route 2007 at the Clarion River Bridge. Do not cross the bridge, but continue straight ahead on State Route 2007 for about 0.5 miles to the take‑out bridge on Deer Creek. Gauge: None. Newly graded creek bed at the take‑out is deceiving. If it is passable just downstream of the put‑in bridge, this section will be okay. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is small, it should normally be runnable approximately January through April. |
