County Maps: Somerset

Description: This Casselman tributary flowing out of Somerset offers a surprise to those who have car scouted the Class II lower 5 miles from Milford. The Somerset flatwater gives way to a steep wilderness run of about 3 miles. The stream is small throughout. A mile below Roberts the West Branch joins, size increases, the gradient tames down and the stream becomes Class II. [Reported about 1985]

Difficulties: Trees are possible on the small headwater section.

Shuttle: Put in at State Route 281 in Somerset or along any side street in Somerset. Follow State Route 3015 along the creek to the take-out in Rockwood where State Route 653 crosses, or continue the additional 0.4 miles onto the Casselman and take out at the bicycle trailhead in Rockwood.

Gauge: None.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
