Topographic Maps: Mercer

County Maps: Mercer

Description: A remote, fast flowing, clean creek on the outskirts of populated Mercer. Some old railroad grade can be seen, but no houses until the last half mile. It joins Otter Creek to form the Neshannock Creek. [Reported 1998]

Difficulties: None

Shuttle: To reach the put-in, start in Mercer and take State Route 58 south. On the edge of town, State Route 58 will fork to the right and Scrubgrass Road/ E Market Road (State Route 2014) will be straight ahead. Go straight onto State Route 2014. Go about 2.5 miles to Andrusky Road. Turn left/north onto Andrusky Road. The first bridge is Mill Creek. Continue across the railroad tracks and go to the second bridge, which is Cool Spring Creek, the put‑in. To reach the take‑out, return south to Scrubgrass Road. Turn right/west on Scrubgrass Road and go to State Route 58. Turn left/north, the first creek crossing on State Route 58 is the take‑out.

Gauge: None. If the creek looks deep enough upstream of the put‑in bridge, it is okay.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
