Topographic Maps: Curtisville, New Kensington West

County Maps: Allegheny

Description: This is a wonderful little run which starts out as Class I through a pleasant wooded area. Just upstream of the Woodlawn Golf Course the gradient steepens to a more or less continuous Class II. Perhaps the most unusual part is paddling under US Route 28 in the tunnel. [Reported 1990]

Difficulties: A possibility of trees down in the upper reaches and a steep little Class III drop just upstream of US Route 28.

Shuttle: Put-in is near a church and ball field in Millerstown. To get to the put-in exit US Route 28 in Tarentum. At the end of the ramp turn north on Bull Creek road. Continue north on Bull Creek Road to the first stop sign. Go through the intersection and put in near the church and ball field. To reach the take-out, retrace your route south along Bull Creek Road. Just before crossing the New Kensington Bridge, turn right/east onto First Street. There is a Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Access here.

Gauge: N/A

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
