Topographic Maps:  Strattanville, Clarion

County Maps:  Clarion

Description:  The first 3.4 miles of this trip are on Brush Creek, which is a tributary of Piney Creek. There is no access at the junction, so continue on Piney Fork for 4.1 miles to the Clarion.  This creek lives up to its name. There is much overhanging brush at first, then many fallen trees. Scenery usually wooded, but marred by some logging, junk, houses, etc. At the end, the run turns pretty with hemlocks. First part has many easy rapids. Last part has continuous rapids of little boulders and ledges. [Reported 1994]

Difficulties:  Lots of overhanging brush, then many fallen trees. Also some cables and gas pipes.

Shuttle:   To get to the put-in, take State Route 68 south from Interstate 80 at Exit 62 for Clarion. Go 0.5 miles to Williamsburg, turn left/east onto Township Road T531 (Siverling Rd). Follow Township Road T231 and go about 1.5 miles to the bridge at Stoney Lonesome Road intersection. To reach the take‑out, return to State Route 68. Turn left/south and go 0.3 miles to State Route 3016 (Piney Dam Rd). Turn right/west on State Route 3016 (Piney Dam Rd) and follow this as it becomes Laurel Road (T420) all the way to the mouth at the Clarion River where it intersects State Route 2007 (Huckleberry Ridge road).

Gauge: None.

Normal Wet Period:  No available statistics on seasons.  Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt.
